• Herdade Grande takes a new step around the successful label Cacau: a new image is launched, and there is a presence in the major retail outlets for a campaign supporting the collection and protection of abandoned or lost companion animals. “In the last year, almost 42 thousand animals were abandoned in Portugal. It is important to draw attention to this,” warns Mariana Lança, general manager of Herdade Grande.

Upon arrival at Herdade Grande, Cacau warmly and playfully welcomed everyone. He was a Labrador with a very special, calm, and suddenly irreverent empathy that charmed everyone. He became one of the symbols of the house. And if he was of the house, he was of the family. Then Cacau fell ill, and in June 2022, he passed away. He left a huge void in Herdade Grande, and the tribute became evident – to honor Cacau’s spirit on the label of a wine and to share the memories he left behind!

And so it was. Cacau immediately became an iconic label of Herdade Grande; the project grew, and the wine became increasingly sought after. Now, another important step is taken. Cacau will reach even more people through the shelves of major retailers such as Auchan and Sonae, as well as the Herdade Grande website, debuting a new image, bottle, and label. All to draw maximum attention to the cause of the São Francisco de Assis Association – Cascais. Through Cacau, all consumers can support the activities of this specialized and recognized institution in the collection and protection of abandoned or lost companion animals, as 1% of sales go to the association.

The new label for Cacau features a QR Code that serves as a link to a campaign information page. Mariana Lança, the general manager of Herdade Grande, explains the genesis of the initiative. “We have always had a special connection to animals, and it is very shocking, especially in today’s times, that those who should be companions continue to be subjected to abandonment and mistreatment. In the last year, almost 42 thousand animals were abandoned in Portugal! Cacau was beloved and desired. It is important to draw attention to this so that people decide whether they really want to commit to the companionship and proper treatment of an animal”, says Mariana Lança.

The campaign marks the launch of a new wine, Cacau, in the market—a red wine that aims to reflect a more youthful profile of Vidigueira, elegant, fresh, easy to consume, and seductive. Here are the tasting notes for this wine.

Tasting Notes: Ruby-colored wine. On the nose, it reveals notes of young red fruit and eucalyptus, very well integrated with the toasty wood. On the palate, there is a continuation of the notes presented on the nose, with round and well-balanced tannins, and an elegant, medium-persistent finish, clean, marked by the presence of young fruit.”
